Susan Cooley, Artisan
Susan brings professionalism and excellence to her art. Her experience and interest as a Stained Glass Artisan spans 28 years, including 23 years of design experience. Her background and training in both fine arts and graphic design brings quality and creativity to her designs and leads her to subject matter rarely executed in stained glass.
Susan's experience includes work with Abraxis Art Glass in Fort Collins, Colorado, where she completed several hundred pieces of stained glass work and participated in a major church restoration. At Abraxis, Susan further developed her skills in designing, building and repairing a wide range of stained glass products, including windows, entry sidelights, transoms, cabinet doors, church windows, glass etching and sandblasting, and lamp building. She carries these skills into her work at Akasha.
"Since returning to Canada, I have sought to create unique glass art designs using nature as my inspiration. I want to create the best in traditional designs and also move beyond them to bring life and realism to my pieces.
"In my individual work and in collaborations with other artisans, I have chosen to incorporate the classical elements of earth, air, fire and water into my work. These elements appear both in the images rendered in glass and in the materials incorporated into the work.
"I want my art to move the soul and elevate the consciousness of everyone who sees it."
